Soul in the City

Background

Brookside, Kansas City — Built in 1917, this home featured the superior craftsmanship of its time: graceful arches, intricate wood floors, layered millwork. Its homeowners came to us to balance heritage with the open, functional features of modern living requires. Challenge accepted.

Client Testimonial

‘Some nice words here, which are coming but not yet.’
– Becky and Brian P.

Challenge

Preserving character while improving usability was key. The kitchen was too small for hosting, the primary bath lacked spa-like comfort, and storage was limited. No first-floor laundry or mudroom meant lost convenience.

A portion of the covered porch became the mudroom, seamlessly blending with the home’s architecture. Durable tile flooring and pill-shaped accents echoed the arches showcased throughout the house. — photo 4

By relocating the laundry downstairs, we expanded the primary bath into a true oasis—heated floors, a soaking tub, a steam shower, and a double vanity. A separate water closet improved flow and privacy. — photo 8
