Reviving Tudor Tradition

Background

This 1930s Tudor came to us with a strong architectural pedigree: arched openings, leaded windows, and a mosaic terrazzo floor that still drops jaws. The homeowners loved its history but needed it to function for modern daily life, particularly through its kitchen, circulation spaces, and storage.

Challenge

The house lived like a series of beautifully preserved rooms that didn’t quite speak to each other. The kitchen was enclosed, storage felt improvised, and key transitions—bedroom to bath, kitchen to dining—lacked flow. The risk wasn’t just inefficiency; it was disrupting the home’s architectural language in the process of fixing it.
